Mabel at 9 Months

Mabel turned 9 months old on July 1. We had her check-up last week and she's coming in at 95th percentile in height and weight, which still kind of blows my mind with her puny beginning.

She is now crawling. It's not the most conventional form of crawling, but, boy, is she fast. She's also pulling up to stand on couches and chairs, and I can't manage to convince her that she's not quite stable enough to let go.

She's talking too. So far she has said, Mama, Dada, Ella, and Amen! She also seems to have made up her own word for food, which is nana or nam, nam.

Speaking of food, she loves feeding herself and drinking out of her sister's cups. The doctor said she's really advanced in her self-help skills. We're waiting for her book to come out.

She continues to love classical music: "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Mussorgsky being a particular sing-a-along favorite. Yes, my nine-month-old is more cultured than I am. She has also started giving us mini-piano recitals. She crawls over to her little toy piano, plays a little tune, then turns around, smiles, and waits for us to applaud. Then she plays again. For her first birthday, I'm thinking of getting her an NPR tote bag.

She's not exactly blond, but very golden brown now. She also seems to have inherited B's golden-brown skin, which I really appreciate.
