We took advantage of Daddy's holiday and put him to work for our old-fashioned school. First he and the girls baked biscuits. Yes, my Eastern-European husband makes better biscuits than me, but it is my Grandma's recipe. Then we had story-time from The Little House Cookbook and My First Little House books.
Then we all tried our hand at making butter by shaking cream in a jar.

We've successfully made butter this way before, but this time we managed to make whipped cream instead of butter. Must have been using commercial cream instead of raw. A trip in the Kitchen-aid and a little patience finally did turn the cream into butter. Not very old-fashioned, but we had a yummy lunch.
